Reed Leads FAST Series Back Into Action; Brubaker Holding Onto FAST 305 Lead

MAUMEE, OH (7-21-10) by Bryan Autullo – FAST Public Relations

The Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title returns to action this Friday July 23rd (Attica) and Saturday July 24th (Fremont) as points leader Byron Reed will try to hold off the rest of the Top 10 on Night #15 of the 22 race schedule.  Reed has been the dominator so far in 2010 with 4 FAST wins, but Mark Keegan is trying to close the gap using his vast experience behind the wheel of a sprint car.  Keegan is one of the winningest drivers at both Attica and Fremont and the familiar "X" car has become legendary in Northwest Ohio dirt track racing.  Keegan needs to pick up 152 points on Reed to even the score while he tries to hold off 3rd place Craig Mintz and 4th place Kevin Lee who have both been nipping at his heels.  Chris Andrews, who sits in 5th place, has come on strong over the past several weeks and will try to climb the ladder toward the top of the point standings before the FAST season ends on September 11th.

Phil Gressman, Dean Jacobs, Jody Keegan, Bryan Sebetto, and Mike Linder round out the Top 10 in points with 11 races in the books (plus 3 rain outs).  With the season half over, these drivers will be pushing to get to the top of the standings as the scorching summer heat brings the points race to a boil.  With 152 points separating 1st from 2nd place, it might be a tall order for Keegan if Reed maintains his agressive attack.  However, only 220 points separate 2nd place from 10th place.  A lot can be gained before the final checkered flag falls in September with over $60,000 in cash and prizes on the line for the Top 10 finishers.  Look for the Top 10 to be shuffled several times in the coming weeks.

FAST 305 Series Points Update:

The FAST 305 sprints will also return to points racing action this weekend at both tracks with only 4 events remaining on the FAST schedule.  Just 98 points separate 1st place from 10th place as the battle intensifies.  Stuart Brubaker leads the chase with a slim 2 point margin over veteran racer Paul Weaver.  Weaver holds just a 2 point advantage over 3rd place Nate Dussel.  Dussel is not safe either with DJ Foos on his heels and only 7 points behind.  John Ivy and Jimmy Colvin are tied for 5th place - both trailing the leader Brubaker by only 37 points.  Foos is on the loose, however, and has been racking up the wins lately at Attica and will be a contender for the FAST points title when the dust finally settles.

Bobby Clark and Zack Kramer are currently tied for 7th place, just 46 points behind the leader.  Josh Muntz sits in 9th place with Steve Rando rounding out the Top 10.  Matt Merrill and Dan Hammond sit just outside the Top 10 within striking distance of a payday at the FAST banquet.

This weekend marks the last FAST305 events before the final points are tallied on each track's Championship nights in August and September to finish off the 10 race series.

Night #14: Martin Magnificent - Earns First Career 410 Feature Win at Fremont

FREMONT, OH (7-10-10) by Scott Porter - FAST Public Relations

The Kistler Racing Products FAST Championship Series returned to action at Fremont Speedway after Mother Nature washed out racing the night before at Attica. Signing in were 29 cars and stars to take on the tricky 1/3-mile clay oval located inside the Sandusky County Fairgrounds. Many familiar faces were in the pits, but several invaders like 3-time All Star Champion Dale Blaney and former Sprints On Dirt Champion Dustin Daggett were looking for a FAST payday with the $2,500 up for grabs at night’s end.

The night started out with Dean Jacobs powering around the speedway at a rate of 12.81 seconds on his qualifying lap to earn the TQ Fiberglass Quick Time Award. Lee Jacobs, Chris Andrews and Dustin Daggett won the preliminary heat races as 2009 FAST Champion Craig Mintz would have to use the B-Main to make the show along with Duane Zablocki, Kevin Lee, Shawn Valenti and Jody Keegan.

With the stage set it was Lee Jacobs and Dustin Daggett leading the field to the green flag and it was Jacobs powering to the high side to lead the opening lap. The race was soon slowed by the one and only caution flag of the race when current FAST Kistler Cup points leader Byron Reed hit a rut in turn three causing him to bottom out and spin out and down the banking. The yellow would send Reed to the tail, as Lee Jacobs would lead Dagget, Brandon Martin, Craig Mintz and Brandon Wimmer to the restart up front. Mark Keegan would find himself in 8th place with a chance to chip away at the 186-point difference between him and Reed.

Jacobs would pull out to the lead once again as Mintz and Martin battled for second place. Soon Martin would dispose of Mintz and set his sights on the lead cars as they approached lapped traffic. Just a few laps later Martin, running the low groove around the 1/3-mile clay oval, would pass Daggett for second. Near the back of the pack “The Ohio Gasman” Phil Gressman was charging his way towards the Top-10 after starting in 18th.

Reed Continues to Lead FAST Series Points; Brubaker Holds Slim Lead in FAST 305 Series

MAUMEE, OH (7-7-10) by Bryan Autullo – FAST Public Relations

Kistler Racing Products FAST Series 410 Sprint Points Update:

Missile on a Mission: Byron Reed has set the mark in 2010 for 410 sprint car success in the Northern OH region.  Reed has racked up 4 wins in Kistler Racing Products FAST Series Competition and added 2 more wins when the All Star Circuit of Champions showed up on his doorstep.  Reed, a multi-time track champion at both Attica and Fremont has blazed through the first half of the 2010 season leaving the competition in his wake, but with 10 more races yet to be contested before the Kistler Cup is awarded, anything can happen.

Missing In Action: Brock Mayes dropped from 2nd place all the way down to 15th this past weekend as he was a no-show for the two full events and one make up feature from the June 12th rain out.  Mayes, who looked to be a contender for the 2010 championship, has all but eliminated himself from a run at the Championship.

The X-Factor: With Mayes missing from the line up, Mark Keegan moved into 2nd place and trails Reed by 169 points.  The veteran Keegan may have a few tricks up his sleeve as he waits for Reed to falter between now and mid-September.  Keegan tasted victory once already this season and has the leader in his sight as he looks to add the Kistler Cup to his vast collection of trophies.

Sneak Attack: Kevin Lee, who earned the nick-name "The Sulfur City Outlaw" during Ohio Sprint Speedweek, has come on strong and used some of the experience he gained on the road during the 9 grueling days racing against the All Stars.  Lee has managed to move into 3rd place and trails Reed by 215 points.  The 3J Motorsports Team has Lee ready to pounce on 2nd place running Mark Keegan over the next 10 FAST events.

Defending Champ: Craig Mintz has remained consistent in 2010...consistently coming from the back of the pack to finish in the Top 5.  If not for a disqualification at Attica a few weeks back for a missing muffler, Mintz would likely be knocking on Keegan's door for the 2nd place spot.  However, Mintz must now find the extra something he has been searching for and use the final 10 events to his advantage.  Starting closer to the front is an area the 20x team needs to improve on, because Mintz has been a contender for winning races when he starts in the Top 6 spots, but mechanical failures have proven to be his downfall in 2010.

Its What He Does: Chris "Its What I Do" Andrews finally pulled off a win last weekend at Fremont Speedway after a rough start to the season where many nights were spent watching the A-mains instead of competing in them.  Andrews seemed down on his luck.  Some nights the #15c showed up at the track towed by a dump truck, which seemed to symbolize the struggles the team was having on and off the track.  Now it seems as though they've hit their stride and have moved into the 5th spot with 10 races left on the schedule.  Andrews trails Reed by 227 points, just 10 points behind 4th place Mintz.
