Night #11: Reed Wins Wild One at Attica; Foos Picks Up FAST 305 Win

ATTICA, OH (7-2-10) by Bryan Autullo - FAST Public Relations

Attrition was the name of the game at Attica Raceway Park as the Kistler Racing Products FAST Championship Series returned to action on Friday night. The top 6 starters in the main event all encountered some sort of problem with mechanical failure or a crash. It was Byron Reed who was camped out in 7th place who was the benefactor of all the mayhem that happened in front of him. Reed was also a victim of mechanical issues as he lost his brakes on lap 12. He was able to hold on, and eventually drive away from the rest of the field.

“Things were going our way tonight. On the 12th lap I lost my brakes so I couldn’t really drive very aggressively. I was just lucky those guys (Sebetto and Gressman) bounced away from me because there was no way I was going to miss them if they crashed in front of me because I had no brakes,” said Reed in victory lane.

Reed, who picked up his 4th win of the season after going winless until the last event of 2009 was elated to be having such good fortune on a night where so many had problems. “I don’t know what it is. The JEI car and the Kistler motor are working good and the crew is working good and the breaks are going our way. We shouldn’t have won this race…this thing is wounded..it’s not good at all. Just sometimes things go your way,” added Reed.

Mike Linder took early lead of the 410 feature, but then Sheldon Haudenschild, who was running second, Aaron Middaugh and Brian Smith spun bringing out the first caution. Then soon after, another caution flew for fourth place running Brian Lay and fifth place running Dean Jacobs who got together in turn 2.

On the lap 3 restart, Linder and outside first row starter Craig Mintz battled while 12th place starter Phil Gressman would drove to the front into third with Jody Keegan, Reed and Sebetto racing each other behind him. Another caution on lap five for a Matt Linder spin allowed Mintz pull his top wing all the way back blast under Linder for the lead on the restart. Gressman drove around Linder into second. Gressman and Mintz then traded sliders with Gressman taking the lead on lap 7. Gressman and Mintz put on a show for the fans while Linder tried to hold off 9th place starter Bryan Sebetto for third with Reed running fifth and coming on strong.

FAST Series Returns to Action This Weekend After Ohio Speedweek Break

MAUMEE, OH (7-1-10) by Bryan Autullo - FAST Public Relations

The race for the 2010 Kistler Cup Trophy and the champion’s $10,000 share of the Kistler Racing Products FAST Championship Series points fund heats up this coming holiday weekend as three features are on tap. First on Friday, July 2nd the teams will haul to Attica Raceway Park for Kear’s Speed Shop Fan Appreciation Night. Fans will be treated to a great night of racing for an affordable $10 general admission ticket price! Then on Saturday, July 3rd at Fremont Speedway the teams will first compete in the make-up feature from the Night #10 rain out before the regular night's program begins. The month of July will separate the contenders from the pretenders as the series only takes off the July 16th-17th weekend for the running of the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway.

It has been a grueling summer so far for many teams who will spend the second half of the season chasing down "The Monclova Missle" Byron Reed who currently leads the points chase and has proven to be the man to beat in 2010 at both tracks.  Reed leads Brock Mayes by a 100 point margin while Mark Keegan and Phil Gressman lurk in the shadows waiting to strike.  They will have a chance this weekend with 3 feature events in two days to gain some ground on Reed.

Also on tap for this weekend is the return of the FAST 305's for Nights #5 & #6 of the 10 race series.  Stuart Brubaker leads John Ivy by just 13 points and only 95 points separate 1st place from 15th.  The ultra-competetive 305 division will be interesting to watch as we pass the half way point on the 2010 schedule.  Early season favorites Bobby Clark and Paul Weaver sit in 3rd and 4th place with up and comer DJ Foos rounding out the Top 5.  Look for a points shake up this weekend once the dust settles.

"Sulfur City Outlaw" Kevin Lee Collects Ohio Speedweek Bonus Cash From FAST Series

MAUMEE, OH (6-28-10) by Scott Porter - FAST Public Relations

The 2010 edition of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek can be chalked up as one of the most grueling weeks in the 28-year history of the annual race across the Buckeye State. Over a dozen teams made the over 1,100-mile trek to all 9 events zig-zagging across Ohio, but only one Kistler Racing Products Fremont Attica Sprint Title (FAST) team braved the grueling hours behind the wheel of their rig and early morning maintenance to make it to all 9 of the shows.

Kevin Lee, a Green Springs, Ohio native, out ran current FAST Kistler Cup points leader Byron Reed by 71-points to collect FAST’s $500 Ohio Sprint Speedweek Cash Bonus presented by Fremont Speedway & Attica Raceway Park. The bonus money was offered up to any FAST Series driver who had competed in every FAST points event in 2010.  If on one of those drivers were to win the Ohio Speedweek points title, the FAST Bonus Cash would have paid $1000, but All Star David Gravel was the victor.  Lee picked up the $500 bonus as the highest finishing FAST Series driver at the end of the week.

In just his second year behind the wheel of the 800+ horsepower beasts known as 410 sprint cars, Kevin and the 3J Motorsports team put up an impressive 12th place finish in the Ohio Sprint Speedweek point standings with the help of qualifying for 7 of the 9 feature events. The grueling week for the team was capped off with an 11th place finish at Fremont Speedway on Saturday night. As Tim Shaffer & Stevie Smith put on a show up front, the JD Automotive, Papa Jimmie's BBQ & Pizza, A.S.E. LLC Industrial Fabrication, King’s Den #3J Gressman Powersports powered Maxim was a fixture in the Top-10 for nearly the entire 50-lap finale. Lee would loose the tenth position late to Reed, but would hold on to collect his best finish of the week.

The driver formerly known as "The Leezard" was affectionately dubbed "The Sulfur City Outlaw" after an incident at Limaland on Friday night after an on track incident with another driver following a heat race crash that sent both drivers back to the pits on a hook.  (Kevin's home town of Green Springs, OH is famous for having the world's largest natural sulfur springs.)  That was only the second time during Speedweek where Lee failed to make it into the main event, the other coming at Waynesfield.

FAST Series Offers Ohio Speedweek Cash Bonus
MAUMEE, OH (6-12-10) by Bryan Autullo - FAST Public Relations

For the second year in a row, the organizers of the Fremont/Attica Sprint Title in cooperation with the promoters of Attica Raceway Park and Fremont Speedway are offering a $1000 cash bonus to any FAST Series driver who can win the Ohio Sprint Speedweek points title.  If one of the F.A.S.T. regulars cannot take the top spot, a $500 Bonus will be paid to the highest finishing F.A.S.T. regular for the week.  If a F.A.S.T. driver does win the Speedweek title and the $1000 bonus, the $500 will be awarded to the second highest F.A.S.T. driver in the week’s standings.  Points will be based on the All Star's Ohio Speedweek points system which awards 100 points to the winner of each event and is reduced by 1 point per position through the entire field (including B-main and C-main).  No show up points are calculated for determining Ohio Speedweek points.

Fremont promoter Rich Farmer and Attica promoter John Bores both stepped up to the plate in 2010 to put up the cash for this bonus as a reward for the support these teams have shown their tracks this season.  "I think the FAST Series has been great for our local drivers and we want to see these teams support Ohio Speedweek and compete with the drivers from other areas around Ohio as well as give the All Stars a run for the money each night," said Farmer.  "Ohio Speedweek has always been one of the biggest weeks of sprint car racing in the State of Ohio and we would like to see these guys take it seriously and go compete each night and show the fans across the state what we get to see each weekend at Attica and Fremont."

Drivers who are eligible for the cash bonus are:
Byron Reed, Brock Mayes, Mark Keegan, Phil Gressman, Craig Mintz, Kevin Lee, Chris Andrews, Jody Keegan, Bryan Sebetto, Brandon Martin, David Harrison, Todd Heller, Mike Linder, Brian Smith, Shawn Valenti, and Duane Zablocki.

There have been a couple of rules set forth for eligibility to receive the bonus money:

1. Driver must have competed in all F.A.S.T. Series points events through June 12, 2010.
2. Driver must have Kistler Racing Products F.A.S.T. Series decal on both side panels of the top wing for each event throughout the week.  (See a F.A.S.T. Series rep for decals if needed.)

Night #10: Shortened by Rain

by Brian Liskai - Fremont Speedway PR Director

FREMONT, Ohio – Thunderstorms struck Fremont Speedway as the B-main was on the track for the Fremont Fence Dirt Trucks, and the heavy rains forced the cancellation of the rest of the night’s activities for the Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title.

The make-up A-main for the 410 sprints will be run on Saturday, July 3. That means there will be a complete program for the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and dirt trucks on July 3 with a bonus make-up feature for the 410 sprints to complete this evening's points totals.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action on Saturday, June 26, as “The Track That Action Built” hosts the ninth and final night of the Ohio Sprint Speedweek paying the winner of the A-main $10,000. Budweiser is the night’s sponsor as the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars come to town.
