Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title presented by SRP/Engine Pro & DGGI
Night #20: Mintz Scores Two In a Row at Fremont Speedway

FREMONT, OH (8-7-10) by Bryan Autullo - FAST Public Relations

On the final back-to-back night of the 2010 season for the Kistler Racing Products FAST Championship Series presented by SRP Pistons/Engine Pro, 25 fire-breathing 410 sprints made the tow to Fremont Speedway to compete for FAST points, track points, and a $2500 pay day.  Cole Duncan would set the quick time for the night, but then failed to transfer from his heat race sending him to the B-main.  Duncan went on to win the last chance race earning him a spot in the A-main.

The story of the night was the effort put in by the crew of the Bobby's Truck & Bus Repair #20x piloted by Craig Mintz.  Mintz, who was the victor last Saturday night at Fremont, was up all night rebuilding his Maxim mount after a nasty flip in turn 2 at Attica on Friday night.  "This thing is all bent up," said Mintz prior to his heat race.  "The front end is bent one way, the rear end is bent the other way.  I'm not sure how we're going to make it turn left."

His crew was able to figure out a setup that worked well on the slick surface as he transferred out of his heat race allowing them to breathe a sigh of relief after working to rebuild the car throughout the entire day.  Mintz would roll off 8th in the main event just hoping to get a decent finish.

Night #19: Jacobs Jets to FAST Win at Attica; Haudenschild Hammers Home 305 Victory

ATTICA, OH (8-6-10) by Bryan Autullo - FAST Public Relations

The final back-to-back FAST Series event and the final Friday night race at Attica Raceway Park for the 2010 season had 25 410 sprints and 30 305 sprints checked in to try to advance in the standings before the dust settles in the chase for the Kistler Racing Products "Kistler Cup".  The 305 sprints were on hand to run their FAST Series A-main event that was rained out on July 23rd.  The remainder of the night was not for FAST points for the 305 division.

In the make-up FAST feature event for the 305's, Brad Haudenshild and Paige Polyak lead the field to the green flag.  Haudenschild jumped to the lead with Polyak, Dustin Dinan, Brad Bowman, Jimmy Colvin and John Ivy chasing the #10 sprinter piloted by Jac's nephew.  Haudenschild rocketed around the 1/3 mile oval hitting lapped traffic by lap 8.  Polyak began to close the gap, but never mounted a serious challenge to the leader. By lap 10, Haudenschild navigated through traffic and ran away with Polyak in second and Dinan and Jimmy Colvin racing hard for third. The first caution of the 25 lapper came with just five laps remaining for Steve Rando's spin.  At the restart the running order was Haudenschild, Polyak, Colvin, Dinan, Bowman, D.J. Foos, John Ivy and Paul Weaver who spun in turn 2 on the following lap.

On the next restart, Haudenschild drove away from Polyak who was holding off Colvin. On the final lap Nate Dussel made hard contact with the front stretch wall bringing out the first red flag. On the final restart, Haudenschild easily took the win with Colvin getting by Polyak for second and Dinan and Bowman rounding out the top five.

“I had to win!  My mom and dad are usually on their way to Knoxville by now and they stayed back so we could race tonight and it paid off,” said Haudenschild from victory lane.  Haudenschild then reached into the Kear's Speed Shop FAST Cash Bonus box and pulled out a #1, giving himself an extra $100 cash bonus.  The bonus is determined by random drawing from the Top 3 finishers in the A-main event.

In the Kistler Racing Products FAST Series 410 sprint feature, Dean Jacobs finally got to start up front after joking last week that he should get some kinf of award for passing the most cars in 2010.  Jacobs lined up along side Kody Kinser.  Jacobs grabbed the lead with Kinser, Rob Chaney, Shawn Valenti, Mark Keegan and Mike Linder battling like mad behind him. Kinser’s clipped a tractor tire in turn 3 causing him to spin and restart on the tail. Phil Gressman, another contendner for most cars passed in 2010, was on his way to the front from 11th to 7th in just two laps. On the restart Jacobs went to the top with Chaney on his tail while Valenti was battling Keegan and Gressman for third. A red flag on lap five stopped the action when Travis Philo went end over end in turn three.

FAST 305 Championship Title Hunt Gets Intense With Just Three Events Left

MAUMEE, OH (8-4-10) by Scott Porter - FAST Public Relations

When the Fremont/ Attica Sprint Title (FAST) 305 Championship Series competitors take to the track for their July 23rd make-up feature at Attica Raceway Park on Friday, August 6th it will be elbows up for all 25-laps as each lap and position will play a key role in determining the series’ inaugural champion. With a $1,000 champion’s share of the purse plus a $500 gift certificate to All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads & FREE Triple-X Race Components Chassis up for grabs the racing action should be wild over the final three events.

Currently Stuart Brubaker holds a slim 8-point advantage over D.J. Foos atop of the points for the FAST 305 Championship Series presented by Kear’s Speed Shop & Cleveland Golf. Brubaker, who picked up a FAST 305 win back on May 15th at Fremont, has been the most consistent driver and averages a 5th place finish thanks to three Top-5 finishes to date. Brubaker also leads the 305 Sprint Car point standings at Fremont Speedway and has let it be known the B&L Racing team is out for championships in 2010.

D.J. Foos has been on fire in 2010 at Attica Raceway Park and is the only two-time winner in the FAST 305 Championship Series. While four Top-10 finishes have helped the Fremont, Ohio native climb into 2nd place, the unfortunate finishes of 13th & 18th at Fremont have given the driver of the Burger King, R&R Auto Wrecking backed #11F an average finish of 7th so far in 2010. With two of the three features remaining at Attica, Foos will surely be found on the hammer powering around the high side and possibly to a FAST 305 championship run.

Sitting only 16-points out of first in 3rd place is Nate Dussel. While Dussel may be the only driver in the Top-5 without a win during FAST 305 Championship Series action the driver of the Berrier Fabrication, Dussel Welding backed #1 looks to carry over the momentum of his win last Saturday night at Fremont into the final three events. Dussel started off the inaugural FAST 305 season by rattling off five consecutive Top-10 finishes before finishing 12th at Fremont on July 24th.

Night #18: Mintz Roars Back Into Victory Lane At Fremont Speedway

FREMONT, OH (7-31-10) by Scott Porter - FAST Public Relations

The Kistler Racing Products Fremont/ Attica Sprint Title (FAST) competitors made the short tow to Fremont Speedway for Night #18 of the race for the Kistler Cup on Saturday night. Byron Reed’s lead atop of the FAST Kistler Cup Point Standings would see a small chunk (9-points) taken out of it by Mark Keegan after Attica. Twenty-six drivers were signed in and greeted by a much improved track surface. Numerous hours of work over the week by the staff at Fremont with the help from Helms & Sons Excavating, gave way to a fast, smooth, multi-groove racing at “The Track That Action Built.”

The evening started off with Bryan Sebetto posting the TQ Fiberglass Quick Time with a lap of 12.59 around the historic 1/3-mile clay oval located inside the Sandusky County Fairgrounds. Lee Jacobs, Craig Mintz and FAST Rookie of the Year Points Leader Shawn Valenti won their heat races. Sandusky, Ohio’s Chris Andrews used the B-Main to earn a spot in the 30-lap feature and was joined by Mike Linder, Matt Linder, Brian Smith and Scott Euler who picked up the transfer positions.

Todd Heller and Jamie Miller led the field to the green flag in A-main action and it was Heller powering out of turn two with the lead as Miller jumped the cushion and fell back to fifth. Heller would set a blistering pace on the high side with Lee Jacobs, Bryan Sebetto, Craig Mintz and Miller in tow. The leaders quickly found themselves in lapped traffic by the 6th circuit and Craig Mintz and Byron Reed were on the charge. Reed would race himself into the Top 5 after powering past Miller. Mintz soon disposed of Sebetto for third and set his sights on Lee Jacobs in second. Mintz raced past Jacobs in the next corner and quickly caught up to Heller on the next lap in traffic. With ease the defending FAST Champion was back in a familiar spot atop of the leader board, as he passed Heller at the flag stand on lap 10.

Mintz would soar off to a healthy lead as a 3-car battle brewed behind him for second place as Heller, Jacobs and Sebetto wowed the crowd with daring moves in lap traffic. Sebetto would squeeze past Jacobs for third out of turn two as Heller drove off from the duo. The race would be slowed by its first caution on lap 15 as Sheldon Haudenschild would back his #93 machine into the styrofoam barriers in turns 1 & 2. The restart would have Mintz and Heller separated by 3 lapped machines followed by Sebetto, Jacobs, Reed and Chris Andrews in the Top 5.

The race got underway with lapped cars becoming a key factor as Mintz pulled away yet again. Andrews would jump the cushion in turns 3 & 4 paving the way for five cars to get past before the next caution flew for Brandon Martin's flat left rear tire. The crowd’s attention may have been up front, but Dean Jacobs was on the prowl yet again moving up to 7th place after starting in 17th. The next green flag run would bring heartbreak to Todd Heller, who was in 2nd place, when he failed to turn and drove straight into the soft walls in turn 1 ending his night. The restart would see Mintz and Lee Jacobs at the top of the class with two lapped machines between them and Reed, Sebetto, Dean Jacobs and Keegan. When the green flag flew Reed quickly routed his B&S Racing machine past the lapped cars, while Dean Jacobs put a slider on Sebetto for fourth. The race would be halted yet again when Brian Smith stopped on the front stretch with front-end damage on lap 20.

The race found its pace in the final ten laps, as Gibsonburg, Ohio’s Craig Mintz would drive off to a sizable lead over Lee Jacobs and Reed. Behind them Sebetto would return the favor on Dean Jacobs and claim fourth place for good with a slide job out of turn two. Mintz would fly uncontested in the final five laps and hit his makes in stride around Fremont to earn his first feature win of the 2010 season. Lee Jacobs, Reed, Sebetto and Dean Jacobs rounded out the Top 5.

"Everything kind of fell into place. We made the inversion and the 4 put us a little closer to the front than a 6 would have. We got lucky and were really good in the heat race. I had kind of a pathetic start (in the A-main). I think we went from 4th to 7th or 8th and I just had to be patient and follow through 3 and 4. Lee was getting grip off of 4 and I wasn't. I was running the top in 1 and 2 and I was just trying to keep it off the curb and we were pretty tough tonight. We did what we could,” said Mintz besides his Real Geese, KS Sales & Service backed #20X Kistler Engines powered Maxim, “I gotta thank my dad and Brad and Kevin Shammo and everybody over there that's helped out at the shop. We've started to get a hold of things and get back to basics. We had some pretty trick stuff trying to make it work and it just wasn't working for us. I also have to thank Kistler Engines…they put a heck of a bullet in this thing."

"I've never won a track championship in a sprint car and we were blessed enough to win the FAST thing (last year) and looking at the records posted of the past guys who have run here and won here it would be a heck of an achievement."

Mintz’s win would shrink the gap between him and Mark Keegan (who finished 7th) for second place in the FAST Kistler Cup Points Standings to just 13-points with just a handful of races remaining. Reed’s third place run would extend his lead atop of the points in his quest for the series’ sophomore title.

The Kistler Racing Products FAST Championship Series squares off in its final back-to-back weekend of racing in 2010 when they return to Attica Raceway Park on Friday, August 6th before trekking down I-80 to Fremont Speedway on Saturday, August 7th. Only four more points events remain before shares of the $60,000 cash/prizes point funds is divided up at the season ending banquet.
