The final countdown is on for the start of 2012 racing season in Northern OH, but it unofficially starts this Saturday, February 25th as many in the racing community will be heading to the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame Building located behind the speedway grandstands in Fremont, Ohio to take part in the 2012 Racer’s Chili Challenge presented by the Fremont/Attica Sprint Title (F.A.S.T.) and Hoserville Ohio. This event brings local teams, drivers, fans and the local community together during the long off-season to compete for some early bragging rights as the top chili cook in Northern Ohio and also to do a little bench racing before the grueling season begins.
Come out and support one of the most affordable forms of family entrainment in 2012 - dirt track racing! Doors to the 2012 Racer’s Chili Challenge open to the public at 4 pm and it costs just $5 for general admission. Children 12 years of age and under will get in free with a paid adult. Everyone will get a sample cup and spoon with their paid admission to take around to the various chili teams to sample as many chili entries as you wish. You will also receive a ballot to fill out to vote for your favorite chili recipe.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the Hoserville Ohio Injured Driver's Benevolent Fund & the 2012 Kistler Racing Products F.A.S.T. Championship Series presented by Engine Pro & KS Sales & Service point fund.
"We're excited with the response we've got for the Racer's Chili Challenge and poker tournament this year," commented Bryan Autullo of the FAST On Dirt, Inc. organization, "We'd like to thank the people who are helping bring this event back to life. Randy Mapus, Stephanie Linder, Rick Claar, and Dick Sebetto of WOW Carts who will also be selling raffle tickets for a custom made F.A.S.T. Series golf cart that will be on display for the first time this Saturday. They've all been instrumental in assisting in the planning of this event along with Scott and Chris of F.A.S.T. and the Hoserville Ohio gang."
Brian Liskai, Fremont Speedway and Attica Raceway Park track announcer & co-host of the “The Buckeye Speed Zone” on Eagle 99, will emcee the Racer’s Chili Challenge in between tasting some of the chili entries. Interviews with local drivers will be held throughout the day to help fans learn about the upcoming plans of the stars and cars that compete weekly at Fremont and Attica. Drivers, teams and fans can also pick up a copy of the 2012 schedules for Fremont, Attica, the Kistler Racing Products Fremont/Attica Sprint Title and the F.A.S.T. 305 Championship Series.
The afternoon will heat up with the help of the 14 teams competing for the “People’s Choice Award” and for bragging rights amongst their peers in the sprint car, late model/dirt truck or fans/media divisions. The celebrity judging panel consists of Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame inductees Jim Linder (2009), Harry Kresser (2011) and Tim Sabo (2012). These judges will determine the three divisional awards.
Several award-winning teams from prior years are returning to challenge the rest for their chance at the winning the grand prize of the “People’s Choice Award” chili pot trophy and $100 cash. The three divisional winners will also receive a chili bowl trophy as well as a prize pack donated by Fremont Speedway, Attica Raceway Park, F.A.S.T. & Hoserville Ohio.
The 2010 “People’s Choice Award” wining team of Hammer Motorsports along with Wilson Chili, Chili Cheez Ballers and Shammo Motorsports make up the sprint car division. Missler Raicng 50Y, a DIRTcar Late Model team will battle head-to-head with dirt track ace Hennig Racing in the late model & dirt truck division. Highlighting the fans & media division is the 2009 “People’s Choice Award” winning team of Racing World joined by 4th Turn Freaks, Jake & Shirley (2010 Fans/Media Division winner), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Austin City Limits, The Dog Girls of Summer, Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame & Team Witte.
"We're extremely pleased with the number of teams returning to the event and the number of new entries this year," said Chris Kettman of F.A.S.T. “It just goes to show you that we have a great local racing community in this area who support these two race tracks. We hope to see a large turnout again this year as fans are gearing up to go racing in less than 40 days!”
Hoserville Ohio will host a Charity Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament with a $25 donation/entry fee to play. Test your poker skills in this non-profit charity event against the likes of 2009 F.A.S.T. Champion Craig Mintz (410 Sprints), Tony Beaber (410 Sprints), Steve Sabo (Dirt Trucks/Late Models), Chad Wilson (410 Sprints), Junior Felver (305 Sprints), Ryan Missler (Late Models) & many more.
An event for kids 17 & under is the a Rock-Paper-Scissors Tournament presented by Computer Man Inc, which is a single elimination format tournament to determine the overall champion. The winner and runner-up will win trophies.
The popular KS Sales & Service "Hot Head" Jalapeño Pepper Eating Contest also returns this year. This event is usually a crowd pleaser and highlight of the day like in 2009 when Jason Tomczyk ate a record 15 peppers to win and in 2010 when Rick Claar & Chris Hall finished in a dead heat. This year the payout will be $100 to win with second place taking home $50 and third place paying $25. There is no entry fee for this contest and it is open to anyone who can withstand the burn of trying to eat the most jalapeños in 5-minutes.
Registration for these events will begin as soon as the doors open. Just simply sign your name on the sign-up sheets and your name will be called when your event is set to begin. The poker tournament will take place shortly after the Racer’s Chili Challenge awards presentation. Chili team members are also encouraged to join in on the fun.
Fans attending the event will also get the chance to meet their favorites local racing stars during several driver autograph sessions. Other activities include a Hall of Fame trivia scavenger hunt, 50/50 raffle & much more. Also Charles Taninecz from Fantasy Dirt Racing will be on hand to assist any fans who may want to sign up for their free fantasy dirt racing leagues.
Refreshments like pop and water will be available at a concession stand for just a dollar.
