FREMONT, OHIO (11-15-08) by Bryan Autullo - F.A.S.T. Public Relations Director

The first official F.A.S.T. event was held on Saturday November 15th at the Fremont Eagles in Fremont, Ohio to kick off a new era in local 410 sprint car racing. The Fremont/Attica Sprint Title is a new concept being implemented for the 2009 racing season. FAST On Dirt, Inc., along with the help of local TV Weather guru and local racing supporter Norm Van Ness, put this event together in an attempt to bring the fans a little something extra in the off season when the race cars sit quietly in the shops. By gearing it toward supporting two local racing charities, along with contributing to the 2009 F.A.S.T. point fund, the event drew the attention of a broad range of people across Northern Ohio.

The event brought rock and racing together with the bands Mourning Wood, Mr. Bone, and Down Under Thunder taking the stage by storm. The crowd filled the room on a rainy, cold night to enjoy the sounds of modern and classic rock tunes by talented area musicians. The event was capped off by Down Under Thunder's tribute to the sounds of AC/DC, and they nailed it. They had the crowd on their feet in front of the stage enjoying their high energy show. Everyone left wanting more and asking when we plan to do it again. F.A.S.T. would like to thank the bands for donating thier time for this event and making it a huge success.

The intent of putting on this event, besides the community involvement, was to raise funds for the 2009 point fund and help the above mentioned charities. There were several large boxes and bags of canned goods and toys collected for Keith Whaley's "Checkered Flag Christmas" and $150 was donated to the "Racers Racing for a Cure" group. After all expenses were paid for the evening (sound man, band's bar tab, etc) the F.A.S.T. point fund was increased by $1000. In addition, several people were introduced to sprint car racing through videos being played on a large screen between bands which surely caught the attention of some who will give dirt track racing a try next summer.

F.A.S.T. would like to thank all those who attended this event for their support. This is just the beginning of what will be something special. This championship title is fan driven. The F.A.S.T. Champion will not be Fremont Speedway's Champion, nor will he be Attica Raceway Park's Champion. The F.A.S.T. Champion will be the "Fan's Champion" and every fan has an opportunity to take ownership in this concept and help it grow and succeed.
